A gusset is a triangular or rhomboid piece of fabric inserted into a seam to add room and reduce stress in clothing. Gussets have been used at the shoulders, underarms, crotches and hems of clothing. You’ve seen them in the crotch of tights and panty hose. Gussets are not just for clothing. You’ll find them in bags, luggage and purses.
Godets are triangular pieces of cloth set into a garment for fullness or decoration. Often the godet is done in a contrasting fabric to make it stand out more.
